Birds Make Great Pets!

where can i get a baby bird chick for a pet? And what should i do if i have a nest in my backyard?
You can get a chick from breeders or pet stores, which can be found online or through classified ads. If you have a nest with eggs, DO NOT try to take one and hatch it. It is very difficult to do on your own, and most people end up destroying the egg by not caring for it properly. It is much better to get a chick that was hatched by its mother and is just old enough to eat solid food. When you hatch your own chick, you need to grind up food for it and feed it every one to two hours using tweezers or an eyedropper, keep it at the exact temperature it needs, and be with is nearly all the time. It is NOT worth doing, as fun as it sounds.
My Pet Birds

What type of bird is this?
I saw this bird in my back yard. It is certainly an escaped exotic species but I am unable to find out what it is and I’m an avid birdwatcher. On to the description… The bird was blue with a white breast, 20 to 30 inches from its blue crest to a split tail. I would have called it a hyacinth macaw except for the white breast and the split tail. It was at least that size. I only saw it from the front and the base of the tail was white and it looked like only the lower half of the tail was split and blue. The beak was black and shaped like a parrots’. Any help is appreciated. 10 points on the line. And any websites that list exotic birds with pictures and searchable databases will do just fine. I’m in Los Angeles and I already know all the local, wild species. Thanks for your help.
I am thinking either a blue and gold macaw, or a Blue Throated Macaw

What animal should I get?? exotic?
Hello! I am an animal lover and I have had many different types of animals. Right now I only have 2 cats and I am looking for another pet. I live in a condo, so space is limited. I am looking to get another animal. I want it to be something unique and fun. I want something that is relatively easy to take care of. Also something that dosent smell too bad. I was maybe thinking along the lines of hairless rat, sugar glider, chinchilla….something like that. I don’t really want any birds. I dont think I want any reptiles, but I’m open to them. Anyways, what type of animal should I get? You can recommend something I havnt mentioned or tell me why I should get something that I have mentioned…like pros and cons.
Thank you sooooo much!!!! I hopeI find the right animal for me!!
yeah rodents are always good. idk something unique…how about a mouse they are easy to take care of. gerbils are always good. ferrets are really friendly but stink. ummm honestly if you want a dog or something greyhounds are really , i mean really, easy to take care of. they sleep all day and usually dont mess in the house. but they are kind of big. maybe a small dog like a yorkshire terrier would work.idk. just whatever is right for you.

Using Your Finch Feeders
There are plenty of birds in the wild but the finches are distinguishable because of their brightly colorful feathers and sweet songs. If you want to attract these birds, all you have to do is set up a couple of Finch Feeders in your backyard. When it comes to these finch feeders, go with those with a tubular design.
This is the design that you want for the feeder because several finches can eat at one time from the feeding ports. You can hang your finch feeders if you like but you might also want to consider using a bird feeder pole for them instead. Because these Finch Feeders come with multiple ports, it is relatively easy to feed a flock of finches at any given point in time.
Here is where you can choose from a lot of different feeders and there are also plenty of options when it comes to bird feed. Do some research when it comes to what a finch eats since this species of bird is picky.
What finches like to eat includes nyjer seeds or thistle. Birds like finches like foods that they can eat with ease and this is why they like these. Some people find the nyjer seeds too costly and this is why cracked corns and other seeds make for great substitutes.
See to it that you cut up very small pieces of bananas, melons, and apples if you will be adding these to your Finch Feeders combining them with the seeds. Also consider using berries or grapes in this case. You can mix these up with the seeds but you should not place the fruits inside the tube feeders.
You should always watch out for the accumulation of mold and mildew when it comes to your finch feeders. What these can do to the seeds inside the feeder is ruin them. There should be no clumping seeds when it comes to the feeding ports so check for such.
Do consider using a bird feeder pole when it comes to your finch feeders. This is how you can protect the feeders and the birds from cats and squirrels. Finches are wild birds and they prefer to eat on high places.
You should also replace the seeds inside the finch feeders once a month or much sooner when the seeds inside look wet due to moisture. This is what you need to do to keep the finches coming.
You can prevent big and large birds from accessing the feeders and all you need is a cage. Restrict the opening to allow only the finches to enter the feeder. It is also possible for you to provide food for the big and large birds through another feeder.
Finches are so colorful when you see them. You can easily get a glimpse of these birds through finch feeders. You will also take pleasure in hearing their music which is found to soothe the human spirit.
